12VHPWR is the new power connector used for newer PCIe Gen 5 specification graphics cards such as the NVIDIA 40 series. This connector enables power delivery of up to 600W, provides more power in a smaller area, which means that They don't take up as much PCB space as the older 6-pin and 8-pin PCI-e connectors.
For the new 40-series GPUs, NVIDIA has published the minimum PSU requirements. Consult the following table:
TGP | Minimum Wattage PSU |
GeForce RTX 4090 |
450W 850W |
GeForce RTX 4080 16GB |
320W 750W |
(The GPU formerly known as) GeForce RTX 4080 12GB |
285W 700W |
12VHPWR cables come with the two sense wires necessary to signal the 600W capacity. The other two sensor cables have no function and are not required. We have hidden these strands between the two rows of cables with sleeves for a very clean look. However, please be careful when trying to slide off the included cable combs. DO NOT try to slide them in too fast or these sensor wires may "come out".
All of our 12VHPWR cables use crimp terminals on each connector.
In all our 12VHPWR cables we exclusively use 16AWG wires for the power supply, to comply with the official PCI-e specification. The sense wires, which are not responsible for power delivery, use 28AWG.
